League information:

Velocity Lacrosse is a combination of Speed Lacrosse, Box Lacrosse, and Field Lacrosse. Small fields, small teams with more touches, more speed, and a major focus on fundamental skills.

Here are a few reasons why we love Velocity Lacrosse:

·        No contact forces players to play body position defense which will rapidly develop a player's footwork.

·        There is a major focus on passing as teams need to inbound the ball with a pass and are not permitted to shoot without one completed pass in the offensive zone.

·        With one player always in goal, defenders are forced to play man down defense which promotes defensive communication and effective sliding.

·        The emphasis on offense is to pass to find the open look not to dodge and shoot which promotes teamwork and quick passing skills.

·        Small fields and small teams will result in more playing time, more touches, and more development.

Game

·        Teams - 5 to 6 players (3 vs 3)

·        Field - 20 yds x 40 yds

·        Time – 2x 15 min halves game, running clock, and no timeouts.

·        Ball - The Velocity ball is a soft foam rubber material

·        Stick Length - Short sticks only (37" - 42")

·        Crease - Crease is 18' diameter

·        Tie Games - If a game results in a tie there will be a 90 second sudden victory. If neither team scores the game will be recorded as a tie.

·        Face-off - At the beginning of each half and overtime.

·        Out of bounds - Last touch on out of bounds results in a change of possession (including shots).

·        Returning the ball to play - Offensive team must inbound ball when it goes out of bounds by passing the ball from out of bounds to teammate that is in-bounds.

·        Inbound buffer -Defensive players must keep a 5 yard buffer to offensive player in-bounding the ball except after goal when they must return to the defensive side of the field.

·        Restarting after a goal - After a goal is scored the offensive team (that  was just scored on) will inbound the ball from GLE on either sideline (defense must return to defensive side of the field).

Rules

Personal Fouls (1 minute man advantage - non releasable)

·        Stick Contact - Absolutely no contact is permitted with a players stick except to a minimal extent during a face-off or in competition for a ground ball.

·        Body Contact - Absolutely no contact is permitted with a players body except when "boxing out" in competition for a ground ball.

·        Shot Velocity - "Crankshots" whether underhand, side arm, or 3/4 are not permitted.

Technical Fouls (change of possession)

·        One Pass Rule - Offense must complete one pass on the offensive side of the field before attempting a shot. The inbound pass does not count as a one pass.

·        Raking - When the ball ends up on the ground, a player must pick up the ball with their stick as if using a shovel to pick up dirt or snow. A player cannot use the mesh of the stick to cover the ball in any way.

·        Crease violation - Only one defensive player is allowed in the crease. No offensive players may touch the crease.

·        Offensive charging - A player with the ball cannot push into a defensive player who has established position.

·        3-second rule. When the person with the ball is closely guarded within the offensive half of the field. The offensive player has three seconds to pass the ball or change his cradle by changing hands.
